MOVIE MARKETING : FILM INDUSTRY

1) Which film have you chosen?
Kidulthood
2) Why did you choose this film in particular?
I chose this film because the kid in the title suggests the film could be based around young teenagers which is my age group and I'd most likely be interested in it.

1) What was the film studio or production company behind your chosen film? E.g. Warner Brothers, Paramount etc.

  • Stealth Films
  • Cipher Films
  • TMC Films
  • UK Film Council

2) Who was the distributor for the theatrical release of the film in the UK?

  • Revolver Entertainment (2006) (UK) (theatrical)

1) What genre does your chosen film fit into?

Crime | Drama | Romance

2) How can you tell it fits that genre? Be specific with reference to the trailer.
Crime - includes a variety of scenes based on gangs fighting and weapons being used.

Romance - there are some relationships between boys and girls in the trailer resulting in some pregnancies.
Drama - lots of arguments about drugs, relationships and life was discussed.

3) Does your chosen film have any stars or a director that are known for that particular genre?

Aml Ameen and Noel Clarke are presented as the main characters that are more known to be categorised in the crime genre because they get into a lot of violence. On the other hand actresses such as Jaime Winstone and Red Madrell are shown to be the less violent but still characters that get into drama because of relationships, the come under the genres Romance and Drama more than the male characters.

1) What was the UK release date for your chosen film?

1) What was the word-of-mouth like for your chosen film? If you can’t find tweets (probably blocked) use the IMDB user review rating or the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer rating to judge whether the public have given the movie a good review.

From the reviews I've seen I've gathered most ratings out of 10 are either a 7 or higher which is positive. A consumer quoted "Kidulthood was a fantastic film, showing, yes, a different way of life, but a true representation of it. It was actually quite unnerving at how similar life is for my community to that of the film".

2) Find three quotes (no more than 25 words each) from user reviews of your movie to create a picture of what the public reaction to the film has been. Post them on your blog.

"Kidulthood was a fantastic film, showing, yes, a different way of life, but a true representation of it. It was actually quite unnerving at how similar life is for my community to that of the film".

I am not sure why this film is getting so many poor ratings. It is an excellent piece of film-making with a cracking script, fine performances and imaginative direction. A real eye opener that deserves a wide audience.

Best movie I've seen in years! Everyone did a fantastic job in making this a realistic and moving film. The storyline addresses the universal struggles that teens experience and made me think deeply about the problems we all face.
