GCSE Media Paper 1 PPE
The most important aspect of any mock exam is making mistakes and learning from them. With a new specification this is even more important and remember we're learning from this process too.
Here, we need to closely analyse our performance across each question in Paper 1 and identify specific ways we will improve for the real exam on Monday 3 June (PM). Complete the following learner response tasks in a new blogpost on your Media blog called 'Paper 1 PPE learner response':
1) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for GCSE Media? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in this paper?
Yes I met my target grade for Media - 5.
We don't know exactly what grade boundaries AQA will set as this is a new specification. These are the boundaries we've used, based on last year's GCSE exam but reduced slightly to account for the new specification (out of 84):
9 = 77; 8 = 69; 7 = 60; 6 = 52; 5 = 44; 4 = 35; 3 = 26; 2 = 18; 1 = 10.
Now read through the AQA mark scheme. This is vital as the paper was an official specimen exam paper and therefore the mark scheme tells us a lot about what AQA are expecting us to produce. The original question paper is here if that is helpful too.
2) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:
Q1 - 0/1 : didn't learn verbal code
Q2 - 9/12 : more specific CLAMPS evidence
Q3.1 - 5/8 : go over narrative theories
Q3.2 6/12 : be specific eg. from the vids
Q4.1 - 2/2
Q4.2 - 2/6 : how do my points subvert masculine stereotypes?
Q5 - 1/6 : basic answer, had to link to product
Q6 - 0/2 : wrote horizontal integration instead of vertical
Q7 - 5/9 : needed more specific egs
Q8 - 3/6 : didn't include the growth of active, interactive audiences
Q9 - 11/20 : needed to include more of my own judgement
Example:
Q2: 5/12 marks
Additional points: I didn't mention typography, use of language, colour, lighting etc.
3) Based on the whole of your Paper 1 learner response, plan FIVE CSPs / topics / theories that you will prioritise in your Media revision timetable leading up to the June exams.
