CAMERA ANGLE TASK
1) Pick three camera shots and explain the effect they have on the audience.
0.07 SECONDS IN
- The first insight of what the viewers see is LONG SHOT of the Oni demons attacking Issac. This has the effect of opening this scene and allowing the consumers to understand whats about to go down.
0.23 SECONDS IN
- This is a MEDIUM SHOT but also a CLOSEUP of Allison Argent's hand holding a bow and arrow getting ready to take a hit. We can see Allison's emotions as its slowly moving closer towards her and then focusing on the arrow. This implies Allison's got a big role due to her facial expression which is presented as serious and focused and it sets the scene for the following actions that will take place.
0.37 SECONDS IN
- The CLOSE-UP SHOT on the Oni demon communicates the intensity of the scene and the mixture of happiness and shock the other characters in this scene are feeling as Allison's arrow worked. This has the effect of causing the audience to feel relieved as they now know that the pack have achieved what they came there for and are now the winners.
2) Pick two camera angles and explain the effect they have on the audience.
- The intensity caused after Allison's aim is shown using camera angles. The HIGH ANGLE SHOT of Kira and the rest of the Oni demons fighting presents the pack members as being resilient, even after Allison's got one down the rest are still using their all to beat the other Oni's. Aswell as the tension created you can clearly see Kira is now the bait for the other two Oni's because she's situated in between both demons.
- In contrast, Allison is shown in a low-angle medium shot immediately after her closeup of being relived that she's beat a said to be 'invincible' being. In this low angle it shows a different Oni stabbing Allison with a sword through her stomach. The effect this angle has is it is first presented as making Allison look powerful as she's beaten an Oni but when the Oni appears it helps the consumer understand that she's lost that power.
3) Analyse the camera movement:
The camera movement at the beginning of the scene is fast, steady and fits the intense and mysterious atmosphere as the wolf pack and oni demons are fighting. The pan movements of the pack and demons fighting makes the audience feel as if they're at the scene and seeing the slow effects of how they're getting hurt.
This all changes in the scene when Allison gets stabbed by the demon and by knowledge from past episodes in teen wolf when Lydia screams it means something bad has happened or will happen. So as this happens the camera movement change to a track/dolly movement which is low paced and gives the effect that all members have noticed the result of what just happened. The camera continues to have slow paced scenes and it then focuses on a medium shot of scot and Allison with just a clear view of Scott holding Allison.
As everyones noticed that somethings gone wrong and Scott is holding Allison the camera movement changes to just 2 angles and the camera being still as there is dialogue between Scott and Allison. The camera moves from a closeup of Allison to a Medium shot of Scott holding her giving the effect that the only thing that is important now is Allison because all further scenes are focused on just her and Scott.
